I've heard many people say that classes such as KFM, Blademaster and Assassin should not even be touched if you have higher than 150 ping. Is this the actual truth, or are these statements mere over-exaggeration? Surely it can't be that bad, right?

From a technical perspective (combo chaining+ani cancel+whatever else there is that is factually maimed due to slower actions and movements), is it actually impossible to compete at the highest skill level or reach a certain 'skill cap' in Blade and soul gold with relatively high ping? Is it not possible for me to adjust to my higher ping to a certain point where I could perform as well as someone with 20ms?

Logically, it's obvious that two people who have the exact same skill with the game yet one has 20ms and the other has 200ms, the player with lower ping will ultimately out-perform the other due to being able to react faster (0.18 seconds faster). I understand that, and I can deal with it.

However, I've read that since BnS has very combo-oriented and reaction-based combat, the impact that ping makes in PvP reaches an entirely different level and the advantages/disadvantages are easily more prominent compared to other MMOs.

I've been hyped for this game ever since I used to play Age of Wushu a couple years back, yet I still haven't had a chance to play it, hence why I'm making this post and hoping I could get some answers or differing opinions.

TL;DR - If I put enough time and effort into the game to be able to adjust to my higher ping, is it possible for me to compete at the highest of skill level in PvP or should I just play BnS with the understanding that it's impossible, and I should aim for lower standards in my own play?

Blade & Soul PvPing competitively with 180-200ms

My limited experience in arena is that I CANNOT use the "F" retaliate once knocked down unless I predict that I am going to be knocked down and am already spamming the key, pressing it once the knockdown begins or the popup is displayed isn't good enough. Same thing with the "combo attacks" (PvE) where you hit space to combo a CC with another party members -- it doesn't happen, the game doesn't allow 200 ping worth of time unless you are REALLY (think I managed this once, ever) on point.

We can play for funsies, but nothing serious. The physical reaction time needed to counter your opponent just isn't there due to the distance of the server from us.

There is absolutely no way you can compete with the top 5% players with 200ms. Not even the best of the best in Korea could. We've seen jaesung and a korean assassin on twitch named suk12345 (4-5th best sin on KR) try for themselves and while they perform pretty well there is absolutely no way to make up for the ping difference with superior macro/strategy play. That is not to say you can't have fun, but if you truly want to aim for the top your best bet is playing on JP/TW with 100-150ms but even then it's probably impossible.

You will be at a massive disadvantage for everything in Blade & Soul whilst playing from Australia,  It can be fun while playing against other high ping players, but most of the time it will be a frustrating one sided fight. All we really can do is hope that  BladeaaSoulGold gives us an oceanic server or implements ping based matchmaking.
